Fishing, Hiking, Boating, Sailing: Boat-In Camping has it all!

Boating in to camp is an old Dent Stephen family tradition. But if you’re new to the concept of boat-in camping, South Carolina is just the perfect place to get started. You can pick from a multitude of campsites that offer boating in. The best time of year for boat-in camping is probably summer, but it can be done very enjoyably in the spring and fall months as well. Just remember that temperatures on the water are generally lower than on land, so if you plan to boat in to your destination, dress appropriately for the time you’ll spend getting there.

Boating in also requires that you know what you’re doing on the water – navigationally and survival-wise, boat-in camping means some outdoor know-how is in order. Consider what you’ll bring with you and how much cargo space you’ll have on your particular vessel. When you boat in, you will also want to take any valuables off your boat and bring them with you to the site – or at least keep them under lock and key and out of sight!

Dent Stephen Dent recommends boating in for people who know the outdoors and for those who travel with adult groups. Pets and kids are better left at home until you get the feel for boating in.

Hint: Once you’re comfortable and feel you know how to boat-in well, then consider bringing your four legged friends and little tagalongs.
